“Most books on church growth and health are written by mega-church pastors, church planters, or statisticians and researchers,” Sisk says. “Most approaches present models with which the small to medium churches cannot identify.”

While author Dick Sisk was completing his doctorate in ministry, he focused his studies on how to spur church growth, going as far as to make his doctoral project on the subject. Having been a pastor at numerous churches himself, church growth was a topic near and dear to Sisk.

Sisk is now taking his passion for church growth a step further with the release of his new book, “Beyond the Plateau: Hope and Help for the Small and Medium-Sized Church” (published by CrossBooks), which aims to help other ministers and pastors draw in a larger congregation through the use of biblical principles.

“Most books on church growth and health are written by mega-church pastors, church planters, or statisticians and researchers,” Sisk says. “Most approaches present models with which the small to medium churches cannot identify.”

In his book, Sisk discusses eight different biblical principles which aim to position the church in a way that enables its growth. He uses a conversational, practical form which he hopes will enable the reader to adapt the principles to their church, rather than force their church into someone else’s model – something he believes many other books are guilty of.
