WellWise.org, the leading nonprofit educational website providing science-based, authoritative information on dietary supplements, nutrients and strategies for health, announces a new blog feature written by long-time pioneer of natural and organic causes, Steve Hoffman.
Hoffman’s blog, “From the Ground Up,” will focus primarily on trends and breaking research in sustainable food and agriculture. Highlighting research on the health, nutritional and environmental benefits of organic food and farming, From the Ground Up also will report on the risks associated with the widespread use of toxic synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, growth hormones, and genetically modified organisms in conventional agriculture. Hoffman’s blog explore how we can make food more healthful, sustainable and affordable.
Hoffman’s perspective stems from his more than 30 years of passionate commitment to healthy lifestyles and sustainability, creating projects ranging from establishing vegetable gardens in low-income areas of Philadelphia in the 1980s, to serving as editorial director of the natural products industry’s leading trade magazine, to co-founding LOHAS Journal and the annual LOHAS Forum market trends conference for executives in the $290 billion “Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS)” market.
“Steve is a wonderful addition to our roster of bloggers,” says James Townsend, editor in chief of WellWise.org. “One seldom gets the chance to tap the knowledge and zeal of someone who is so deeply committed to raising awareness of the importance of sustainable farming and gardening, and of healthy living and eating practices. Steve is a widely recognized expert and spokesman for the future of the planet.”
“Nutrition begins ‘from the ground up,’” says Hoffman. “Much of our health in fact is rooted in the soil. There is evidence that organic fruits and vegetables, grown in healthy organic soils, are 25% higher in 11 key nutrients and 30% higher in antioxidants than their conventionally grown counterparts. Sustainable agriculture also has been shown to play a key role in helping to mitigate global warming, reduce toxic pesticide use, and aid in world hunger and local economies—all deeply important to the health of individuals, societies, and the planet.”
Hoffman joins other outstanding expert WellWise.org bloggers on the art and science of health and wellness, including:
