It really does seem that people are investing in the content and quality of their television entertainment at home because they are cutting back in other leisure areas.

Thousands of recession hit Britons are investing in multi channel digital television instead of hitting the town, according to one of the UK's largest independent digital TV installers.

As household purse strings have tightened, Nottinghamshire based DAS, who install digital TV systems across the entire UK, are reporting a whopping 25% increase in sales from this time last year.

With eating out and a trip to the pub being given the elbow for the cheaper options of a take away and a bottle of wine, upgrading the small screen entertainment on offer in the living room has become a vital part of people's survival strategy too it seems

With DAS fitting thousands of Freeview, Freesat and Sky TV systems into everything from council homes to country piles the huge increase in demand they are experiencing from Summer 2008 shows that digital TV is one area that is actually benefitting from the harsh economic environment.

DAS Managing Director Andy Bell said: "Traditionally summer is a very slow time for the digital TV installation industry, but we are experiencing unprecedented demand.

"While some of the surge can be put down to certain areas going through the digital switchover, we are getting calls and enquiries into digital TV_title_Sky, Freeview, Freesat from right across the UK, most of which are from families or older couples wanting to go digital - with many telling us that spending a bit of cash on more channels is a good investment compared to going out.

"Sports channels are proving especially popular because with the new football season coming up people are doing their sums and deciding to watch at home rather than spend more money going to the game.

"As well as wanting quality entertainment a huge percentage of the digital TV installations we are doing at the moment are also including services like Sky+, or other personal video recorders and HD services like Sky HD and Freesat.

"It really does seem that people are investing in the content and quality of their television entertainment at home because they are cutting back in other leisure areas. "
