Artistic elements layered on a scrapbook page lend a certain magic to the design. Layers of paper, ribbon, photos, text or accents add depth and dimension. With digital alphabets, fonts and clip-art sets from Lettering Delights, scrapbookers can make creative, layered titles on the computer.
For a limited time, Lettering Delights' digital alphabets, perfect for layering, are on sale up to 75% off.
Just as layers in graphics programs such as Photoshop make designing infinitely easier, sophisticated titles can be created easily using text boxes in Microsoft Word.
"There are loads of programs that people can use for their scrapbook layouts. But many people find it easiest to use a program they're already comfortable with--Microsoft Word 2003. Even when they're using digital alphabets, many prefer Word," said Mark Seastrand, CEO of Lettering Delights.
"Here's a cool way to make a digital title using text boxes in Word. What a great way to create a page title! Even I can do this!" adds Seastrand.
Create a Layered Title in Word 2003 Using Text Boxes
(For instructions using Word 2007, visit the Lettering Delights Idea Gallery.)
1. Start with a blank Word document. Select Insert > Text Box. Draw an extra large text box and type in a decorative character, such as a Doodlebat from Lettering Delights. (The example shown here uses the character for "8" from DB Fleuries at font size 350.)
2. To change the color inside the text box, go to Format > Text Box, where you can adjust the fill color and line color. You can also format the font color from the Format menu.
3. For the title text, try a digital alphabet. Lettering Delights offers a vast selection of colorful alphabets, with up to nine free for all site visitors. Type out your title in the Online Title-Maker with a transparent alphabet and save it to your computer. (Example uses the Gilded alphabet).
4. In Word, select Insert > Text Box again, and draw a second, smaller text box right on top of the first. Insert your saved title by selecting Insert > Picture > From File. Then go to Format > Text Box and in the color and lines tab, make sure the "No Fill" and "No Line" options are selected.
5. Insert one last text box on top of everything, and type in the rest of your title in a fun font. (Example uses TXT Delicate Script.) Again, format the text box so it is transparent and adjust the font color.
6. When everything is where you want it, print, trim and add to your scrapbook page.
