The IB’s access agenda aims to enable more students to experience and benefit from an IB education regardless of personal circumstances
New York, NY (Vocus) March 11, 2010
The International Baccalaureate (IB) today announced that it has signed a long-term agreement with Pamoja Education Limited to develop and deliver IB Diploma Programme courses online.
Pamoja Education, based in Oxford, UK, will use the latest web technologies to develop and deliver a minimum of 27 high quality online courses by 2015 with an aim to increasing this to 70 or more courses by the year 2020. Enrollment for the initial 8 two-year courses is now open. Initial subjects on offer include economics, business and management and information technology in a global society. Under the agreement, the IB will provide curriculum and development support as well as assuring the ongoing quality assessment of online course development and delivery.
“The IB’s access agenda aims to enable more students to experience and benefit from an IB education regardless of personal circumstances” says IB Director General, Jeffrey Beard. “The introduction of Diploma courses online does more than expand the curriculum options for existing IB World Schools; it also enables us to reach students in remote locations and provide them with the option to also participate in an IB experience through an authorized IB entity.” He further adds, “We’re pleased that this collaboration agreement with Pamoja Education will result in the creation of challenging courses that meet our high standards of quality. Students and teachers from around the world will be interacting online in virtual classrooms, using the latest web technologies.”
“Regardless of where or what they go on to study, or which career they pursue, students will find it essential to have strong skills in online learning and collaboration," says John McCall MacBain, the Geneva-based investor and philanthropist behind Pamoja Education. “We are excited to be supporting the IB’s mission by helping to expand the boundaries of what is possible in quality online education."
