PANAMA, IL. – Author Marilyn Slagel describes her new novel “Dirty Laundry” (published by Abbott Press) as a gut-wrenching, honest look at teen angst.

When Marly Colone’s mother remarries, two families become one. But for Marly, it’s much more than that because she’s just met the love of her life. Almost from their first meeting Marly knows that Johnny is her soul mate, despite being 12 years her senior. There is only one thing standing between them.

Johnny is Marly’s new stepbrother.

An excerpt from “Dirty Laundry”:

“Blended families have always had difficulties melding into a single family unit. In the 1960s we didn’t have Oprah, Dr. Phil, Dr. Laura, or Dr. Oz. At twelve and three-quarters years old, I was lost in the murky world between adolescence and adulthood. With Daddy dying so young, Mom’s remarriage shortly thereafter, and the total dysfunctional family life we had lived from the beginning, my mind was a therapist’s dream. Looking back, I wish I could have had a therapist. Maybe things wouldn’t have been so crazy all those years.”

Slagel knows the true appeal of “Dirty Laundry” is its heartfelt honesty. “The emotion in it will grip you until the end,” she says. “It is funny, poignant, sad and a bit sexy.”
