Off-Road Survival System Completes Grueling Expedition to the Baja 1000

The Disaster Reconnaissance System (DRS), manufactured by Campa USA, successfully navigates punishing off-road conditions during a recent trip to the Baja California peninsula.

North Ridgeville, OH (PRWEB) January 10, 2007 -- It took nearly two weeks, 7,000 round-trip miles and three separate time zones -- making it one of the toughest expeditions in Campa USA's short history. However, with its Disaster Reconnaissance System (DRS) in tow, the company recently completed a trip to the Lower California area which included some of the harshest off-road driving conditions in the world.

Embarking in late November, Campa USA representatives traveled from North Ridgeville, Ohio to Mexico's Baja California peninsula, coinciding with the Baja 1000, a world-famous off-road race event.

"Expeditions such as the Baja trip are excellent opportunities to field test our units," said Chris Cole, president and founder of Campa USA.

"Experiencing these harsh conditions ourselves gives us the opportunity to constantly improve the product," he added.

The Disaster Reconnaissance System, made of 304 stainless steel, is a highly mobile, self contained trailer and living unit which can provide assistance to emergency management officials, disaster relief teams and military personnel. The trailer has been deemed a new generation of survival system and is equipped with components such as a complete kitchen area, large sleeping quarters, hot water shower, water filtration unit, hand sink and 12-volt electrical system.

The Campa All Terrain Trailer (ATT), the company's civilian version, is designed for camping and outdoor enthusiasts and also traveled to the Baja event. A 4x4 team from Florida towing an ATT unit met up with Campa USA in Arizona. Speed Channel's "Truck Universe" followed the Florida team from Tampa, documenting the entire trip.

Durability and mobility have always been important factors behind the design of Campa's trailers. Cole contends the DRS is more than up for the task of emergency management and disaster response, citing the recent trip to Lower California.

"Our trailers are completely over-engineered and designed to take the kind of punishment we saw in Mexico. Disaster management officials, first responders and military personnel require something that's rugged and durable. For this reason, we feel the DRS is a perfect fit for these particular markets," he added.

Campa USA is planning more expeditions and shows in the near future.

Segments from the Florida-to-Baja expedition can be viewed through February on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. EDT, airing on Speed Channel's "Truck Universe." Segments will also be available on Campa USA's website.
