“Operation Celebrate Children” Featured National Anthem by Award-winning Artist Trace Adkins and Personalized Greeting by Mickey Mouse

Country music superstar Trace Adkins sings the national anthem at today’s free performance of Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3 for Fort Campbell soldiers and their families. This special performance at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena was made possible by Feld Entertainment, producer of Disney On Ice; MetLife; Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®; and Clarksville businessman Jack Turner.

"I look at it as an opportunity to just say thanks and that we appreciate what these soldiers do for us," said Adkins. "Their families deserve to get to go to things like this, and I'm just glad to be a part of it."

Families of Fort Campbell soldiers on active duty were treated today to a private, free performance of Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

Fort Campbell families, who have recently seen their service members deployed for the third and fourth times, were also treated to a national anthem performance by multiplatinum, award-winning country music star Trace Adkins and a personalized greeting from Mickey Mouse. Fort Campbell is located on the Kentucky-Tennessee border between the towns of Hopkinsville, KY, and Clarksville, TN.

"I look at it as an opportunity to just say thanks and that we appreciate what these soldiers do for us,” said Adkins about his participation in the event. “Their families deserve to get to go to things like this, and I'm just glad to be a part of it."

At the event, Fort Campbell resident and military spouse Jamie Wilson said, "It definitely shows us that the community really supports us and understands what we're going through. So it was really nice to come and see the appreciation from the community."

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean welcomed the more than 8,000 attendees and was presented a 101st Airborne Division flag by Ann Campbell, wife of Major General John F. Campbell, the commanding general of the Combined Joint Task Force 101, and Sylvia Phipps, wife of Brigadier General Warren Phipps, the Deputy Commander of Support, during a special opening ceremony.

Feld Entertainment, producer of Disney On Ice, partnered with MetLife, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® and Clarksville businessman Jack Turner to make this special performance a reality.

“Feld Entertainment has long supported the efforts of the military,” said Bill Powell, regional vice president, Feld Entertainment. “Operation Celebrate Children recognizes the families behind our soldiers and offers something exciting and carefree during these stressful times.”

“We currently have a large number of Fort Campbell troops in Afghanistan, Iraq and numerous other locations around the world,” said Colonel Dominic Caraccilo, Deputy Commander, 101st Airborne Division and Senior Commander, Fort Campbell, KY. “Generosity shown to our military families is truly special. It’s hard to find words that show an adequate appreciation.”

As part of the free performance, approximately 172 Gold Star Family members were honored guests at a post-show reception hosted by Little Caesars of Hopkinsville and Anna Caryl Guffey with some of the stars from the show. These families have lost a loved one in support of combat operations around the world.

“Our military families sacrifice so much for our country, and it is important for the Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky communities to show our appreciation of Fort Campbell families,” said Jack Turner, who, along with Anna Caryl Guffey, coordinated the event. “It’s tough on these families at home whose soldier is serving our country for all of us. This special performance gave them a fun, relaxing event to enjoy together.”
