Chicago, IL (PRWEB) January 31, 2013
Chicago lawyer Larry Disparti warned today that a recent spike in the number of people filing applications could result in delays or losses for those seeking Social Security disability benefits.
Disparti was reacting to an Investor’s Business Daily report from last month, indicating that a record number of workers – nearly 90,000 – applied for Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits during December 2012 alone.
“That’s certainly a flood of applications, and it raises the concern that one’s case could get lost in the shuffle,” said Disparti, founder of the Disparti Law Group, a personal injury and disability claims law firm with offices in Chicago as well as Florida.
“Our firm simply believes that this increase in applicants illustrates why it is important to make sure there are no omissions or discrepancies in one’s application,” Disparti said. “When a claim is complete and accurate, it greatly increases its chance of being reviewed in a timely manner.”
Disparti said that the Social Security Administration (SSA) requires applicants to provide a variety of personal, occupational and medical data to demonstrate that they meet the SSA’s stringent definition of “disabled” and qualify for benefits.
“Many applicants find that their applications are rejected, or that they need to provide more information,” Disparti said. “When one is dealing with a serious medical condition and struggling to make ends meet, any delay or denial can be extremely frustrating.”
An experienced SSD benefits attorney can help a disabled worker avoid rejection or delay, Disparti said. The lawyer can particularly help in appealing the SSA’s decision on a benefits claim.
“An applicant whose claim has been rejected shouldn’t get overwhelmed by the disability benefits system,” Disparti said. “Instead, they should get help right away.”
