The 9th Annual Year In Review Seminar is held in several California cities to update lawyers on cases decided and statutes enacted in 2012 that will affect their practices. Norbert U. Frost attended the review in San Diego for the Family Law update.

On Feb. 23, Solano County lawyer Norbert U. Frost attended the 9th Annual Beyond the Basics™ 2012 Year in Review: A Family Law Update. The review took place in San Diego at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter hotel. The review is a one-day seminar that discusses the California cases and statutes from 2012 that affect lawyers and their clients in regards to family law.

Mr. Frost regularly attends continuing legal education courses to be up-to-date on the law and provide his clients with the best advice and representation possible. The review went over the extensive changes that are being made to family law procedures, further complicating an already complex area.

Divorcing parties are already required to disclose their income, expenses, assets and debts to each other. Effective Jan. 1, 2013 their disclosures must include copies of their past two years’ tax returns. Effective Jan. 1, 2014, certain Obamacare provisions will be implemented in California via Family Code section 2024.7 which requires that upon filing a petition for dissolution of marriage, parties must be notified they may be eligible for reduced-cost health insurance coverage available through the California Health Benefit Exchange.

These important changes are subjects that Mr. Frost will need to understand and implement in his practice. He will also need to discuss them with clients during the divorce process.
