After many years of implementing hiring practices to support people with disabilities, Swiss Post Solutions(SPS) was publicly recognized by the YAI Network for its best practice approach to hiring, developing and mentoring people with disabilities.
SPS formed a relationship several years ago with YAI Network by becoming a member of its Business Advisory Council (BAC), a group of more than 50 corporate partners who meet and share valuable insight about employing individuals with disabilities. This was the catalyst for putting a thoughtful strategy in place to create a win-win situation. The goal of the SPS strategy was to actively find the right skills for the right job. Today over 50 SPS employees have been hired through this program.
Swiss Post Solutions’ strategies of corporate diversity have proven successful. “First, there is a lower turnover level, which benefits both SPS and our clients, and secondly, there is no difference in performance based on the disability,” according to Russ Cusick, Chief People Officer. “In 2012, a recent YAI graduate hired by SPS was voted our Employee of the Month from a pool of over 1500 throughout North America. In 2008, another program graduate was honored as Employee of the Year.” Russ went on to say, “If this was about charity, I would not do it. We get great workers and those workers get to be independent, contributing members of the workforce.”
This is the second time Swiss Post Solutions has been recognized by this group for hiring practices. The first time was in 2008 when the company was honored by the Business Advisory Council with its Advocacy Award.
