Two young boys in Albany, Georgia have sustained injuries after being attacked by a Pit Bull, according to a recent Fox report. The report claims that one boy was raking leaves in his yard when two brothers next door offered to help. When the boy agreed, the brothers jumped the fence between the two homes and met the boy in his yard. That’s when the Pit Bull reportedly broke free from its constraints and lunged at the children.
The report does not indicate who owns the dog, but according to Fox, the animal allegedly bit the youngest boy in the arm and then latched on to the oldest boy’s face. The dog’s owner then rushed onto the scene and pulled the animal away. The oldest boy is being treated for severe injuries, and the dog was taken away by Animal Control. The report goes on to say that the dog is currently in the custody of the American Humane Society, where it will remain for at least the next 10 days, unless the owner presents proof of vaccination.
Jeff Nadrich, a Los Angeles-based dog bite lawyer, recently weighed in about the issue on his blog. According to Nadrich, “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that Pit Bulls are responsible for more attacks than any other dog breed, by a wide margin. Whether this is due to nature or nurture is a matter of debate, but the fact remains that Pit Bull owners should be especially diligent about watching their dogs around children. Children are attacked by dogs far more often than adults.”
Nadrich advises all dog bite victims to seek medical attention immediately, and then to contact a qualified dog bite lawyer. Nadrich points out that dog owners are typically liable for the injuries that occur at the hands of a dog.
