According to wftv.com, a mobile app designed to assist women who have fallen victim to domestic violence is now on the market. The R3 app, which stands for recognize, refer, and respond, aims to provide all women with a safe and secure method of reporting their abuse and getting help.

The app, developed by Harbor House for its Project Courage Initiative, encourages health professionals and those at risk to identify and respond to abuse. The creators feel that young adults and those in the healthcare industry are more likely receive and utilize information if it is delivered directly to their mobile device.

Considering that it has already been downloaded more than 1,700 times, evidence supporting their claims continues to increase.

According to the national coalition against domestic violence (ncadv), nearly one out of every four women will experience some form of domestic violence in her lifetime. More than 1 million women fall victim to physical assault by an intimate partner every year and eighty five percent of domestic violence victims are women. The costs of domestic violence are estimated to exceed 5 billion each year.
