Don Herring Mitsubishi, a family-owned and operated dealership, is excited to announce the arrival of the future electric automobile, Mitsubishi i, also known as the MiEV. The Mitsubishi Owners Day Event will introduce this new vehicle.

“We are so excited about the future of electric transportation and what Mitsubishi has done to revolutionize how we drive,” said Sherri Herring, VP of Marketing. “The iMiEV, or i, exemplifies Mitsubishi Motor Corporation’s mission to make continuous efforts to reduce the environmental impact of everything from the business processes and logistics, all the way to the product itself.”

This technologically advanced vehicle is designed to average approximately 70 miles on a single battery charge. In February 2010, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation was awarded the prestigious “Environmental Special Grand Prize,” announced at the 25th International Festival held in Paris. The award recognized the i as one of four nominees that represented “concrete projects for sustainable mobility in terms of environmental protection or security.”

The i, or MiEV, is powered by Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle (MiEV) technology. The electric motor can go from zero to 60 in under 9 seconds. The rear-wheel drive vehicle has a 49kW (66 bhp) AC synchronous electric motor; an 88 cell, 330 V lithium-ion battery pack for peak storage of 16 kWh; an onboard charger and a single flxed reduction gear transmission. The electric motor is capable of producing a peak torque of 145 lb. ft. almost instantaneously when accelerating from a standstill. It can reach up to 80 miles per hour.

Comfortably fitting four people, the i comes with an 8-year/100,000 mile battery warranty.
The battery can be recharged in three different ways. One way is with a 120 V Level 1 portable charging cable that plugs into a standard wall outlet; another way is a recommended 240V Level 2 home EVSE charging system with an estimated charge time of 6 hours. Or, a third option is a CHAdeMO Level 3 public quick charging station with an estimated charge time to 80 percent capacity in only 30 minutes.

The Mitsubshi Owners Day (MOD) Event will be held on May 21 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. CDT.
