The Lesbian Health Clinic is uniquely suited to help Lesbian families realize the dream of having children as we have helped thousands of Lesbians become pregnant over the past 27 years.

Donor insemination, also called artificial insemination, utilizes frozen sperm from sperm banks or fresh sperm from donors. Donor insemination not only helps women to become pregnant if their partners are infertile, but also helps single women and Lesbians to become pregnant as well. Donor insemination involves placing sperm in the vagina, cervix or directly into the uterus via a variety of methods referred to as intravaginal, intracervical and intrauterine insemination. Sperm bank donors are rigorously testing for HIV and STDs as well as examined and interviewed in depth to help identify a history of family health problems or genetic disorders.

“The Lesbian Health booth here at the San Diego Pride Festival is very popular,” says Suzann Gage, RNC, NP, LAc, executive director, OB/GYN nurse practitioner and licensed acupuncturist at the Lesbian Health Clinic in San Diego. Gage has coordinated the Lesbian Health booth at SD Pride for the past 11 years. “Donor insemination is of great interest to women at the festival. Many Lesbian couples, and even single Lesbians, are searching for information on how to start a family. The Lesbian Health Clinic is uniquely suited to help Lesbian families realize the dream of having children as we have helped thousands of Lesbians become pregnant over the past 27 years.”

The Lesbian Health Clinic, located in San Diego’s North Park, has over 39 years experience in women’s reproductive health, Lesbian health and LGBT care. The Lesbian Health Clinic’s Donor Insemination Program not only provides Lesbians with access to sperm banks but also trains women in highly accurate methods of fertility awareness and natural fertility detection by teaching women how to view changes in their own cervix (neck or entrance to the uterus in the back of the vagina) with a plastic vaginal speculum. “Vaginal self-examination enables women to correctly chart the menstrual cycle and precisely identify ovulation so they can determine the best time to inseminate,” continues Gage. “We have found this method to be far more accurate than ovulation detection kits you buy at a pharmacy or online. Additionally, we not only provide inseminations here in our office but also teach women self-insemination that can be done by the women herself at home. Our program is one of very few of its kind in the U.S.”

The Lesbian Health Clinic provides a wide range of integrative LGBT health services including complete physical examinations, OB/GYN, donor insemination, fertility awareness/natural fertility detection, urology, same day HIV and STD testing and treatment, bio-identical hormones, nutrition, acupuncture, herbs and Qigong. The Lesbian Health Clinic also hosts the “Lesbians Considering Parenting Workshop” every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7pm for a donation of $5-$10. The Lesbian health Clinic is a program of Progressive Health Services, a nonprofit tax exempt organization located in North Park at 2141 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego, 92104.
