Coen Wijdicks, Ph.D. has been named “Outstanding Reviewer of the Year” for 2012 by the European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA). He is an orthopedic research scientist with the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado, a renowned research facility for orthopedic and sports related injuries. The announcement was made in the journal Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy (KSSTA) - The Official Journal of ESSKA.
Dr. Wijdicks currently serves as the Director of the Department of BioMedical Engineering and as a Senior Staff Scientist at SPRI. His focus is on bench-to-bedside translational research for current clinical needs. Specifically, Dr. Wijdicks is focused on injury mechanisms and ways to optimize surgical and rehabilitation techniques that enhance outcomes of common orthopedic and sports injuries.
Dr. Coen Wijdicks has published over 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles in high level journals, presented over 100 abstracts at national and international meetings, and received over 10 awards for his, and colleagues’, overall excellence in research. Most notably in June of 2010, Dr. Wijdicks was awarded the prestigious Nicola’s Foundation Young Researcher Award, which is given to the best scientific manuscript in the field of knee surgery at the Bi-annual ESSKA Congress.
