Fredericksburg, Va. (PRWEB) November 09, 2012
Dr. Davis, a developmental optometrist specializing in vision therapy services, recently obtained one of the top board certifications in the field. The certification comes after several years of vision therapy experience, one year of intensive study, a written exam and an exhaustive oral interview.
The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) is an international association of professionals, including optometrists, optometry students and vision therapists. The college is the primary body providing board certification for behavioral optometrists, vision therapists, and visual rehabilitation specialists. Membership to the organization, while open, is qualified based on the level of commitment to vision development and vision therapy of the member. Dr. Davis was previously an associate member of the COVD, the highest uncertified membership, requiring yearly continuing education commitments in functional, developmental, and/or behavioral optometry.
“A lot of hard work is finally paying off,” says Dr. Davis of Developmental Optometry & Vision Therapy Services. “The process of obtaining board certification through the COVD is very intensive, and can take some optometrists several years to successfully complete. I’m honored and excited to be certified as a COVD Fellow, and hope to use the certification to continue to raise awareness in Virginia regarding the treatments and procedures available to those suffering from vision disorders such as amblyopia and convergence insufficiency.”
Dr. Davis has been practicing as a developmental optometrist for over thirty years. “This is what I love,” he says. “I love helping those who are frustrated with aspects of their vision or ability to learn. There are great benefits to vision therapy which I have myself experienced, and I am disappointed that this area of optometry so often goes ignored. We’ve been trying to change that, at least in Virginia.” The COVD website at COVD.org explains both the fellowships and memberships in depth, and also features a wide variety of resources describing the various aspects of functional, developmental and behavioral optometry.
