Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 31, 2012
The 2012 COPO Camaro is in very limited distribution. Originally designed back in 1969, this re-creation of this rare beast make this vehicle a collector's dream. Atlanta Chevy dealership Jim Ellis Chevrolet had the only one sold in the state of Georgia and they got "burned".
Drag racing Hall of Famer Lamar Walden purchased the rare Camaro from Jim Ellis Chevrolet and as a gift to the dealership, graced them with a burnout at their facility parking lot. Jim Ellis Chevy employees cleared the lot and allowed Mr. Walden to perform a full burn on Monday when he took delivery of the vehicle which was also captured on video and distributed on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp_zhfpIjnw).
Walden is an accomplished Pro Stock competitor who was backed by Chevrolet receiving one of the first ’69 ZL1 Camaros to drive in the early years of the NHRA Pro Stock circuit. Additionally, he also built and drove a Vega for Barry Setzer in the 1970s and in 1976 won 31 Pro Stock races. He continues to build high performance engines in his Doraville based Lamar Walden Automotive.
"Lamar Walden is a historical figure in the drag racing community and his willingness to display the power of this monster machine was as much of a rare treat as the car itself.", touts Mark Frost, General Manager of Jim Ellis Chevrolet.
Mr. Frost continues, "The 2012 COPO Camaro is an 850 horsepower non-street legal car made specifically for drag racing which has a limited run of only 69 cars. This was the first time that they've been recreated since 1969 and there are no plans at this time to build them again. To have a famous drag racer performing a full burn in one of the most rare Camaro's on the planet was a very momentous honor."
Lamar Walden displayed the COPO for several days at Jim Ellis Chevrolet and when he came to pick it up on Monday, October 29 and was happy to get behind the wheel to show off its muscle by filling the sky with roar and smoke directly in front of the Jim Ellis Chevrolet showroom located on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Atlanta.
The 2012 COPO Camaro was designed with one purpose; drag racing. The car was engineered for the NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes and is the fastest Camaro ever built. There are three engine options available including a naturally aspirated 7.0L V8, a 5.3L V8 featuring a 2.9L supercharger, and a 5.3L V8 featuring a 4.0L supercharger.
