Dragon TV’s ‘Asian Wave’ officially airs in Asia Pacific

Following the soulful delivery of ‘Hero’ by China contestant, Chang Shi Lei, who is touted as one of the most fascinating multi-faceted musicians the industry has ever seen, Shanghai Dragon TV (under the Shanghai Media Group), in cooperation with over ten top Asian media partners and talent agencies, including TBS and AMUSE in Japan, ASTRO in Malaysia, GMM in Thailand and StarHub in Singapore, officially announce the Asia Pacific launch of the region’s largest reality singing show, ‘Asian Wave’, in Singapore.

A panel of judges and viewers will choose Asia’s ‘Next Super Star’ over the course of 20 rounds of rigorous competition. Contestants on ‘Asian Wave’ are all new solo artistes and upcoming bands. In China, after qualifying rounds broadcast on multiple local channels, which attracted numerous musical celebrities, six finalists emerged. The next stage is the commencement of the regional Asian contest whereby formidable artistes from Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and India compete with the Chinese finalists for the ultimate title.    

For the Asian regional contest, the judging panel comprises the highest level of music professionals, including Japan’s ‘Bossa Nova Queen’ Lisa Ono, Korea’s pioneer boy band Shinhwa’s core member Lee Min-woo, India’s ‘Big Sister’ of the popular music industry Anaida, Canto pop legend Alan Tam, Hong Kong’s leading recording artiste Hacken Lee and over twenty top music representatives from the region.

The launch of ‘Asian Wave’ marks the first reality singing show to ever be held across Asia with such scale and reach. The objective of the programme is not only to create a platform of exchange for the region’s top singing artistes, but also to discover a truly representative new Asian singer through stringent, professional-standard, realistic judging.

‘Asian Wave’ will premiere in Singapore on October 8 on StarHub. It will be simultaneously broadcasted in other Asian countries including Japan, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.

StarHub is Singapore's fully-integrated info-communication company as well as Singapore’s largest pay-TV operator. Through an offering of up to 180 channels, viewers are able to enjoy 28 high-definition channels and a wide array of programmes.

Singapore’s vocal powerhouse Rachel Chua and the soulful Kevin Tan Weilian are both representing the country at the Asia region finals. Rachel has represented Singapore in Taiwan’s ‘Million Star’ singing contest and was the first runner-up in the ‘TVB International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship.’ Kevin Tan Weilian emerged as the winner of ‘Project SuperStar’ in 2005 out of 4,000 contestants and became a household name in Singapore.

‘Asian Wave’ will air from October 8, every Monday at 8pm on StarHub’s E City Channel
