Given that so many people move to the Big Apple everyday with social ambition and a curiosity to explore the nightlife scene, it made sense to create a company that offers a trusted voice and encourages others to discover all that New York has to offer.

Thousands of people from all over the world move to New York City every year for school, work, and play. For the ambitious people who learn to traverse the City’s incredible nightlife options, the journey is quite rewarding. However, for many, the City’s endless options can be intimidating and overwhelming. The founders of the new nightlife-centric group-buying website, DrinkTheDeal, were some of these determined, yet overwhelmed explorers. They’ll be the first to admit that it would have been a lot easier and less financially painful if they’d have had someone with a finger on the pulse of the nightlife scene and insider connections to guide them to some of the best times of their lives.

Co-founder Matt Olson said “I didn’t know anyone in the city when I moved to New York five years ago, and many of my early friends were in a similar position. Though we didn’t have a local’s insight of the nightlife scene, we had a blast exploring the endless opportunities. We would scour countless blogs and media outlets to discover local gems and the hottest places, always in the pursuit of trying something new. Those were exciting times, but we spent a lot of money and energy trying bars, clubs, and events that weren’t all we hoped they’d be. Given that so many people move to the Big Apple everyday with social ambition and a curiosity to explore the nightlife scene, it made sense to create a company that offers a trusted voice and encourages others to discover all that New York has to offer.”

DrinkTheDeal provides consumers with a nightlife niche alternative to all of the other group-buying websites out there and the reception they’ve received from New Yorkers so far has been overwhelming. DrinkTheDeal’s members receive invites to exclusive events and deals via email offering an incentive to explore New York City’s variety of nightlife options.

According to Olson, merchants in the NYC nightlife scene have been eager to partner with DrinkTheDeal. Olson said, “Not surprisingly, younger business owners are typically familiar with the group-buying sales model, and see how well it works within their industry. However, what’s been surprising is that even veteran business owners recognize DrinkTheDeal’s services as a more effective way to attract customers and increase sales than traditional ‘spend and pray’ forms of advertising. DrinkTheDeal gives customers the nudge they need through merchants’ doors and generates word of mouth buzz that is essential to any business – but especially important in the nightlife business.”

DrinkTheDeal is launching in grand fashion by hosting an exclusive event on Friday, June 24th at Theater Bar, the most recent cocktail oasis opened by mixology guru Albert Trummer. Theater Bar is a Moulin Rouge–esque venue complete with large-scale artworks, a red velvet curtain, balcony DJ booth and a raised stage where guests will order drinks from a playbill-style menu of cocktails. This exclusive event will include three hours of endless cocktails, and a live performance by Thomas Jefferson and His Ragtime Orchestra. The production is a comedic account of the life of the third President told through 1920s-style arrangements of current pop hits, featuring the 2011 Helen Hayes Award recipient Lauren Molina, American Idiot alums Alysha Umphress and Leslie McDonel and show creator/pianist, Scott Bradlee.
