Everybody likes a good party, and nothing says festive like the right accessories. While items like glow sticks and beads will always be crowd favorites, a trio of Dallas Fort Worth students are looking to bring party garb into the 21st century with DropShades - fashion glasses that feature a light show synced to the sounds of your surroundings.
"Advances in technology have given us digital personal assistants that process our voice commands and cars that pump their own brakes when danger approaches," said Harrison Herndon, one of the project's founders. "Why shouldn't that kind of innovation be used for a little bit of fun, too?"
The party glasses look like a pair of stock shutter shades, but contain a small microphone which picks up the surrounding audio and translates the beat into a pulsating light show in strips across the glasses. Perfect for concerts, clubs, festivals and more, DropShades provides an interactive experience for the wearer and those around them.
After months of development, six phases of prototypes, and a deluge of positive feedback in public testing, DropShades founders Harrison Herndon, Nick Cate, and Skylar Perkins are looking to take things to the next level through the launch of a Kickstarter project. With the money raised, they'll be able to initiate the first wave of mass production and packaging, ultimately bringing the product to market in August 2013. Donors pitching in $30 or more will be among the first owners of what are sure to become instant favorites among seasoned party-goers.
The DropShades Kickstarter Campaign officially launches on May 27th, and will run until the end of June. To make a donation and get a pair of DropShades for your Summer events, visit the DropShades Kickstarter page or click here.
