Narconon drug education centers celebrate UN International Day Against Drug Abuse

From drug-free hip-hop to girl bands, spanning Los Angeles to Copenhagen, Nepal to Ghana, Narconon groups will help kids enjoy the UNODC drug-free communities day.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 23, 2009 -- Narconon drug prevention centers have for years joined in on celebrating the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held yearly on June 26th. This year's UNODC anti-drug day theme is "Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your community. No place for drugs." This message parallels exactly what Narconon lecturers present every day in live drug education talks, reaching nearly 750,000 yearly. There are 150 Narconon centers in 50 countries delivering drug rehabilitation and education, or devoted exclusively to drug prevention.

This June 26th Narconon International hosts a "Hip Hop Drug-Free Celebration" on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. Popular 18-year old performer, "Tru Ace," and others will sing and improvise drug-free messages based on Narconon's drug ed booklet, Ten Things Your Friends May Not Know About Drugs.

Meanwhile, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Narconon European Continental Office will help host all day events, including a parade and rallies in the city's Main Square and World Culture Center with a "girl band" performing, and "Truth About Drugs" drug ed booklets handed out.

Narconon Italy plans several events including a 15th anniversary celebration of its Narconon Astore center, one of 20 Italian residential drug treatment or prevention centers.

In Africa, in Accra, Ghana, Narconon drug educator Joe Appiah will distribute 5,000 "Ten Things" booklets and hold a drug-free festival.

Long before this, as day sweeps across the globe, Basanta Kunwar of Narconon Nepal will have conducted a program in association with the Home Ministry in Kathmandu, delivering drug education to young Buddhist monks in training, holding a football match - Narconon students against police, and a rally.

In Atlanta, Georgia Narconon will be working with the County Sheriff's Department in a unique "Empty Your Medicine Cabinet," educating families about drugs in the home and how they can protect their loved ones by getting rid of unused pharmaceutical prescriptions (the number one rising drug of abuse in the U.S. these days)
