Narconon Gulf Coast Research Shows Several Key Factors Must Be Present at Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers to Ensure a Successful Recovery

Narconon Gulf Coast shares the results of their research on what to look for when selecting a drug and alcohol rehab program

Destin, FL (PRWEB) May 16, 2007 -- Over the last 25 years, studies have shown that drug rehab treatment is very effective in reducing or eliminating drug and alcohol intake. Research also shows that choosing the right drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for the individual is critical to a successful recovery. With thousands of alcohol/drug rehab centers and treatment programs offering a wide variety of services, timelines and environments, it is difficult to know which drug and alcohol program to select. Narconon Gulf Coast is sharing the results of their research to help individuals find a drug and rehabilitation program that works.

When it comes to something as important as helping yourself or a loved one find a drug and alcohol treatment program that works
"When it comes to something as important as helping yourself or a loved one find a drug and alcohol treatment program that works," says Randy Ross, president of Narconon Gulf Coast, "it is crucial to understand the fundamental elements you should be looking for. Narconon Gulf Coast understands that many factors contribute to the effectiveness of a program, but after extensive research, we have found that these three factors consistently contribute to a successful recovery for our students."

Program's Timeline
Research shows that most individuals with a drug addiction and/or alcohol problem require an individualized program without predetermined time limits. Programs are often designed around treating an individual for a fixed number of days instead of focusing on the different stages the individual must go through, in their own time, to overcome their addiction and learn how to lead an ethical and productive drug-free life. "A treatment program should allow individuals to go through the same vital steps necessary to recover but at their own pace," says Randy Ross, president of Narconon Gulf Coast. "It is important to recognize that it may take some people longer than others. Some individuals may take 90 days to complete the program, others 98 and others 110. As in any successful undertaking there are no shortcuts."

Staff-to-Student Ratio
Many centers boast individualized care or one-on-one treatment but it is important to ask what this really means. Finding a center that is small and offers at least a one to one staff-to-student ratio is critical to helping individuals overcome their addiction. "The facility should provide a true hands-on, one-on-one approach," says Randy Ross, president of Narconon Gulf Coast, "an approach where the participant is working one-on-one with a member of staff on his/her recovery throughout the entire program, not just during counseling sessions."

Facility's Environment
Research shows that recovery can be successful if every aspect of the treatment facility is conducive to people wanting to be there and every effort is made by the program's staff to enable individuals to engage in the real work it takes to overcome their drug and alcohol addiction. Often times when individuals first begin a rehabilitation program they are quick to criticize their surroundings and may use them as an excuse to why they can't succeed. "That is why it is important to choose a drug and rehabilitation program that offers a very comfortable and accommodating environment so that participants can focus on their recovery rather than on any negative aspects of the facility," says Randy Ross, president of Narconon Gulf Coast. "This includes providing outstanding food options that are nutritious and providing clean and open living spaces that create an inspiring and positive setting."

About Narconon Gulf Coast
Narconon Gulf Coast is a residential drug and alcohol treatment, rehabilitation and education center. Randy and Debbie Ross founded the center after four unsuccessful attempts to save their own son through other rehab programs. After months and countless hours of research they found that a one-on-one approach in a small, uplifting environment was essential to helping individuals become drug-free. The Narconon program, a long-standing program with global success, is what finally helped Randy's and Debbie's son overcome his addiction. A desire to educate and help other families rebuild their lives prompted Randy and Debbie to turn their home into a fourteen-bed rehabilitation center. The center has a staff-to-student ratio of 1.3 staff for every student as Narconon Gulf Coast is dedicated to keeping students focused on long-lasting recovery by providing a one-on-one approach that lasts for around three to four months, depending on the individual.
