Drug Rehab Mountainside Treatment Center Sees Sharp Rise in its Admissions for Alcohol and Prescription Drug Abuse

Admissions in the past 90 days for individuals who listed Alcohol as their primary substance of abuse accounted for 41.61 percent of overall treatment center admissions. 38.68 percent of male admissions, ages 18 and over, listed alcohol as their primary drug compared to 46.51 percent of female admissions 18 and over.

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 27, 2009 -- In a recent study conducted by Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center in Connecticut, there was a sharp increase in female admissions listing alcohol as their primary substance of choice. According to the Mountainside Study, 46.51 percent of all female admissions in the past ninety days, ages 18 and over, listed alcohol as their primary substance of choice. Admissions for females listing heroin as their primary drug of choice accounted for 16.28 percent of total female admissions, followed closely by Oxycontin and Cocaine, which accounted for 13.95 and 6.98 percent of overall female admissions respectively.

The number of female poly-substance admissions, ages 18 and over, remained relatively flat, however there was an increase in the number of female admissions listing Heroin as their secondary drug of choice, these accounted for 22.22 percent of female admissions. While the largest category of female admissions listing a secondary drug of choice continued to be alcohol with 33.33 percent, this percentage has compressed somewhat due to the increase of the number of females ages 18 listing Oxycontin as their secondary drug of choice - 14.81 percent.

According to the Mountainside Study, 39.62 percent of all male admissions in the past ninety days, ages 18 and over, listed alcohol as their primary substance of choice. Admissions for males listing heroin as their primary drug of choice accounted for 17.29 percent of total male admissions, followed closely by Oxycontin and Cocaine, which accounted for 15.09 and 7.55 percent of overall male admissions respectively.

The number of male poly-substance admissions, ages 18 and over, remained relatively flat, the number of male admissions listing heroin as their secondary drug of choice, accounted for 21.31 percent of male admissions. The largest category of male admissions listing a secondary drug of choice was alcohol with 27.87 percent. Admissions for males ages 18 listing Oxycontin as their secondary drug of choice were 18.03 percent.
