As of November 2016, the dry eye experts at Fischer Laser Eye Center are customizing dry eye care by utilizing LipiView® and LipiFlow® from TearScience®, along with a comprehensive selection of diagnostic and treatment options. LipiView and LipiFlow are some of the latest and only technologies designed to identify and treat meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), the most common source of dry eye symptoms.
“Around 86% of patients diagnosed with dry eye have MGD,” says dry eye expert Dr. Shane Jahraus, OD, of Fischer Laser Eye Center. “LipiView is a simple test designed to evaluate both the function and structure of your meibomian glands. If the results of this test show that the glands are blocked, a quick in-office procedure called LipiFlow may be performed to restore the normal, hydrating flow of oil from the glands to the surface of the eye.”
If LipiView shows that MGD is not the source of a patient’s condition, Fischer Laser Eye Center may perform one or a combination of other diagnostic tests to identify the dry eye patient’s underlying issue, before they select an appropriate treatment from their wide range of options.
By identifying the root cause of a patient’s dry eye, whether it’s the more common MGD or some other ocular issue, the center intends to create personalized treatment plans designed around the needs of each individual patient, as well as eliminate the burden of future dry eye symptoms.
