We’re thrilled to help one of the biggest names in global finance restore their data center to broom-clean condition, so that they can begin capitalizing on their facility in other ways.
Brookfield, CT (PRWEB) June 01, 2012
DSA Encore announces the completion of a major data center decommissioning project for a top-tier global financial institution. This firm, who for security purposes will remain anonymous, retained DSA Encore to dismantle, remove and properly dispose of all electrical and mechanical equipment contained within a 75K square foot data center at the firm’s operations center in Brooklyn, NY.
After obtaining the proper local permits on behalf of its client to begin the project, DSA Encore worked every day for 7 weeks to remove pipe, wire, UPS units, racks, chillers and absolutely anything else slated for removal. In that time, more than 40 decommissioning specialists filled 30 dumpsters with more than 65,000 pounds of debris—along with 40 truckloads of equipment, batteries and other items marked for recycling or disposal.
“I appreciated the professionalism of DSA Encore and the subs they selected ," said the bank’s Building Manager for the data center facility." They understood that this building is a 24x7 operation with tenants to keep happy and businesses to maintain throughout the decommissioning of the two floors. Throughout the entire project, which included removing 75K square feet of materials over 7 weeks, we never received any complaints from our employees or tenants, even with the size of the crew required on a daily basis to finish the job in the time frame they did."
Upon project completion, DSA Encore handed the client a check for $81,500—the fair market value of all materials removed from the site, offset by the cost of the decommissioning effort.
In addition to carefully removing, properly disposing of and recycling all materials for the firm, DSA Encore also pulled all permits, acquired all EPA and insurance certifications, obtained security clearances for all on-site personnel, and ordered all dumpsters, trucks and rigging required for the job—all at its own expense.
“We’re thrilled to help one of the biggest names in global finance restore their data center to broom-clean condition, so that they can begin capitalizing on their facility in other ways,” says Steve Friedman, CEO and Managing Director of DSA Encore. “But unlike our client, too many companies today ignore the risks associated with decommissioning their data centers. Between managing issues of data security, properly disposing of hazardous materials, and capturing the remaining value of their assets, it’s important that businesses recognize the value and security of partnering with a professional team of decommissioning specialists.”
With a fully staffed team led by Skip Napolitano, Director of Decommissioning Services at DSA Encore and on-site construction manager for the project, surgical decommissioning is a cornerstone of the company’s comprehensive data center solutions. It’s a deliberate process involving project scope and definition, asset purchase, facility scheduling and coordination, support acquisition and final restoration. To date, DSA Encore has surgically decommissioned nearly one million square feet of data center facility space.
