"As a company that focuses on education, we wanted to create an active community that allows students to engage in writing in a fun and fresh way. And as incentive to write and write often, we are offering some really great prizes." -John Fallon

DigitalSports®, the one-stop-shop for all things sports journalism, announced the start of its competition for middle and high school sports reporters. A social site where students can share their sports stories with the nation, DigitalSports® celebrates the achievements of student athletes while promoting literacy. To encourage students to write about what they’re most passionate, and consistently sharpen their writing skills, DS will be hosting an ongoing contest for students 13–19 years old.

The student writers, or DS Reporters™, will be showcasing their reporting talents in an attempt to win cool prizes like tickets to sporting events, MP3 players, tablet devices, money for their schools’ athletic programs and even a $10,000 college scholarship. Points are awarded for posting content to the DS site like articles, photos and videos, and sharing this content on various social media sites. The more engaging a DS Reporter™ is within the community, the more points they will collect; and those who accumulate the most points on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis will be rewarded.

“As a company that focuses on education, we wanted to create an active community that allows students to engage in writing in a fun and fresh way,” said John Fallon, VP of Marketing for Vantage Learning, the parent company of DigitalSports®. “And as incentive to write and write often, we are offering up some really great prizes to students. All they have to do is post content, and they could possibly win autographed memorabilia from a sports star or money for college. It’s that simple.”

DS Reporters™ can get started writing and earning points right away. The site has a style guide, story starters, example stories and tons of other writing resources to help students grow and write like pros in no time.

“While covering the drama and glory of middle and high school sports,” continued Fallon, “DS Reporters™ are becoming members of an exclusive team of student sports journalists reporting from the sidelines, benches and fields.”

Beyond its use as a site for member interaction, DigitalSports® is also the hub for sports schedules, scores and statistics through its seamless connection to the athletic management tool LeagueMinder®. Users are able to access real-time information on rankings, team calendars and more.
