The life of this product is extensive and for those businesses that plan to stick with the DS-5000 for a while, DTP provides replacement devices, service and accessories such as cables and batteries.

DTP® has announced that they will continue to stock and service the Olympus DS-5000 digital voice recorder to support businesses and other organizations that have integrated this device into their staff’s standard workflow.

While production of the Olympus DS-5000 is likely to continue for a limited time, DTP – The Dictation and Transcription Pro’s will extend availability of the Olympus DS-5000 digital voice recorders. Additionally, DTP recently announced their offering of the next generation digital voice recorder from Olympus, the recently launched DS-7000.

“Change is good but it is also important for DTP to maintain a reserve of the DS-5000 digital voice recorders because many of our clients have come to rely on this device for day-to-day efficiencies and productivity,” says Harold Holden president of DTP. “The life of this product is extensive and for those businesses that plan to stick with the DS-5000 for a while, DTP provides replacement devices, service and accessories such as cables and batteries.”

Features of the DS-5000 that Holden says are particularly appealing to many of DTP’s customers include the device’s slide switch function, the ability to rewind and insert information, and the large, easy-to-read screen. He adds that the overall robustness and durability of the DS-5000 adds to its popularity as a reliable device for frequent, repetitive use. The DS-5000 records in the Digital Speech Standard Pro (DS2) audio format. It uses microSD/SDHC flash media for internal memory and also accepts optional SD/SDHC media via an external card slot. The DS-5000 offers the ability to edit files in the recorder; it can append files, overwrite a section within a file and insert new recordings into an existing file. Since the DS-5000 is also a mass storage device, it can be used as a USB flash drive to transfer files from one computer to another. The DS-5000 was the first advanced voice recorder from Olympus to offer a device lock option to prevent unauthorized access to the device via password protection.

Holden points out that an organization with several hundred devices in circulation among its professionals may face issues of compatibility, training and customizations that can impact the feasibility of switching to a new device. Making the transition to another device can be a timely process for a business, says Holden, and until then DTP can replace a malfunctioning DS-5000 device and provide accompanying accessories including the AS-5000 Transcription Kit. DTP can also train new staff and honor all DS-5000 warranties. DTP is one of the few sales and service providers that will maintain a substantial inventory of DS-5000 devices.
