Quickflix has published a new online DVD rental catalogue listing the most popular action stars of all time with the movies from each star available to rent.

"It's not like you could walk into a video store and find a shelf listing the biggest action stars of all time and all the movies from each actor available to rent," said Quickflix Head of Content Joe Forte.

"Our action star DVD rental catalogue lists over 20 actors and each actor has an extensive back catalogue of blockbuster action movies attached to them that our rental customer can add to their DVD Queue. If you're a fan of these guys, it's a great way to make sure you've seen all the top action flicks. It also provides an interesting cross section of how action movies and stars have evolved over the past few decades," said Forte.

"Hollywood legends Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson really pioneered the action star identity with the Dirty Harry and Death Wish franchises in the 70's. The action star was typically a tough guy with a chip on their shoulder and a gun in their hand," said Forte.

"During the 80's this evolved into more muscle-bound action heroes. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the cornerstone of arguably the most recognizable action franchise of all time with the Terminator series and his back catalogue runs deep with a slew of popular 80's hits such as Commando, Predator and The Running Man. Sylvester Stallone would be the only real challenge to Arnie in the 80's with the Rocky and Rambo franchises and Jean Claude Van Damme would have to be a close third during this time. The B-grade action genre also flourished and guys like Steven Segal, Dolph Lundgren and Chuck Norris chipped in with a mix of mid-to-low budget action and martial arts films," said Forte.

"As the star power of Arnie and Sly waned, a new type of action star emerged. Bruce Willis, Nicholas Cage and Will Smith were less muscular but played characters highly adaptable to physical punishment and probably played their roles with more charisma and personality than their predecessors. Vin Diesel and The Rock are definitely in the Arnie 80's type of muscular big man, whereas Mark Wahlberg and Jason Statham present a physically capable, personable action star," said Forte.

"There are not too many video stores, if any, that can put one title in a whole range of different, very specific sections so this is one of the advantages of online DVD rental. Having a library of more than 35,000 DVD titles available to browse online by way of different themes and characteristics allows us to merchandise DVD content, and users to find DVD content, in ways not possible in the traditional DVD hire approach that you might find at a video store," said Forte.

Quickflix is an online DVD rental service with over 26,000 subscribers who can access over 35,000 titles, more than 15 times the range of an average video store. The DVD rental service allows users to create a Queue of DVDs, which is an online list of DVD titles the member wishes to see. Quickflix then sends members the DVDs in their Queue in order of preference. To help members add DVDs to their Queue, Quickflix often publishes collections and lists of DVDs linked by a theme.

"Our DVD lists and catalogues usually get a fair amount of attention from our DVD rental subscribers. Even if a user does not add any DVDs to their Queue from a list, they still browse through them out of sheer curiosity," said Forte.
