Quickflix has published a new online DVD catalogue allowing site users to find and rent DVDs of the most popular movie franchises of all time. The DVD hire catalogue is divided up into five sections based on movie genres: fantasy & sci-fi, action, animated, comedy and horror.
"It's not like you could walk into a video store and find a shelf which displayed and grouped the biggest movie franchises of all time available to rent. The catalogue on http://www.quickflix.com.au has over 50 massive franchises comprised of hundreds of Hollywood's most popular DVD titles," said Quickflix Head of Content Joe Forte.
"Action franchises dominate the catalogue. There's more than 20 huge marquee names such as the Terminator series, Rocky, Rambo, the Die Hard films through to the more modern action franchises such as the Matrix films, Jurassic Park's, the Bourne trilogy and many others," said Forte.
The horror catalogue contains a strong contingent of 80's horror movies with the Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, Halloween and Child's Play movies. More recently titles include the Scream, The Grudge, The Ring and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series.
"Animated hits have really taken off this decade with the explosion of 3D animated films. Studios love bringing back the big name characters and the Shrek, Madagascar and Ice Age franchises are among the most loved and watched movies of all time. The Oceans movies, Austin Powers, Rush Hour, Scary Movie and Meet the Parents franchises are always making their way onto our members' rental Queues. But the old classics such as Ghostbusters still experience a lot of rental demand," said Forte.
Fantasy and sci-fi franchises are still regarded as the biggest franchises in terms of box office magnitude, fan popularity, commercial and critical success. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter franchises experience a consistent rental demand to parallel their box office success.
"There are not too many video stores, if any, that can put one title in a whole range of different, very specific sections so this is one of the advantages of online DVD rental. Having a library of more than 35,000 DVD titles available to browse online by way of different themes and characteristics allows us to merchandise DVD content, and users to find DVD content, in ways not possible in the traditional DVD hire approach that you might find at a video store," said Forte.
Quickflix is an online DVD rental service with over 26,000 subscribers who can access over 35,000 titles, more than 15 times the range of an average video store. The DVD rental service allows users to create a Queue of DVDs, which is an online list of DVD titles the member wishes to see. Quickflix then sends members the DVDs in their Queue in order of preference. To help members add DVDs to their Queue, Quickflix often publishes collections and lists of DVDs linked by a theme.
"Our DVD lists and catalogues usually get a fair amount of attention from our DVD rental subscribers. Even if a user does not add any DVDs to their Queue from a list, they still browse through them out of sheer curiosity," said Forte.
