Father's Day Survey by DVD Rental Specialists Blockbuster.co.uk Produces Unexpected Results

With the approach of Father's Day on 21st June, who would you vote for as your favourite movie father? The survey by DVD rental specialists Blockbuster.co.uk found that Homer Simpson was the clear winner with 28% of the vote. An unexpected choice as the "ideal" Dad given that he often puts himself first before his family, using strangulation as a method of control.

(PRWEB) June 19, 2009 -- With the approach of Father's Day on 21st June, who would you vote for as your favourite movie father? The survey by DVD rental specialists Blockbuster.co.uk found that Homer Simpson was the clear winner with 28% of the vote. An unexpected choice as the "ideal" Dad given that he often puts himself first before his family using strangulation as a method of control!

Homer Simpson played by Dan Castellaneta is seen to be one of the most influential animated characters around despite some less than desirable traits such as being crude, clumsy, lazy, incompetent, overweight, and ignorant he has a following of being the ultimate dead-beat dad. When the "chips are down" Homer is still seen to be there when his family really need him.

Jim's Dad as seen in the "American Pie" series, and played by Eugene Levy was the next most popular choice. Every parent knows that at some point in their child's life they will have to face up to the embarrassing topic of sex and other issues to guide their offspring through the exploration passage to adulthood. A great comedy series and is available for online DVD rental.

Another hot contender was Jack Bauer played by Kiefer Sutherland in "24". An "action" dad who always manages to make time for his daughter and usually manages to save her from death by terrorists! Jack's fatherhood is a 24hour job!

On the heels of the leaders was Chris Gardner played by Will Smith in "The Pursuit of Happiness". Even life as a homeless man in America can't stop Chris Gardner from taking care of his boy and making sure they have a roof over their heads while he turns his life around. Will Smith's portrayal of the real-life figure shows a determination most parents would struggle to achieve under the same circumstances.

Other movie fathers included Darth Vader played by James Earl Jones in "Star Wars", Professor Henry Jones played by Sean Connery in "Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade" and Noah Bennet played by Jack Colemen in "Heroes".

Daniel Hillard, played by Robin Williams in "Mrs.Doubtfire" is a true of example of how far a dad would go to see his children, and Henry Tasker, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in "True Lies" is an example of a cool dad who works as an under cover agent.

If you're stumped for a present for your dad this Father's Day, Blockbuster.co.uk has compiled a list of Blu-ray movie gift ideas for Father's Day from £9.71 per movie. There is a long list to choose from, including "The Last Samurai", "Defiance", "This is England" and "Quantum of Solace".
