These WebStores will manage the VMAP registration process, distribute software electronically to eligible users and ensure all the licensing policies associated with the VMAP are met.

The four VMware products that will be offered initially are: VMware Fusion (For Mac), VMware Workstation (For Linux), VMware Workstation (For Windows), and access to the eLearning program. Other exciting products will be added in the near future.

Eligible institutions include: accredited institutions and programs; technical schools offering degrees or diplomas (including through distance education); technology-focused departments such as Computer Science, Engineering, and Information Systems; and, recognized K-12 schools or districts.

"Getting software into the hands of students, faculty and staff at no or low cost has been one of the guiding purposes of e-academy since it was founded in 1998", said Brad Brohman, Vice President, Marketing and Sales at e-academy. Brohman adds, "We are very excited to work with a world-class company like VMware to open up a much broader market for free offerings of their flagship products and e-learning programs".

Adds Julia Austin, Senior Director of Research and Development at VMware, "VMware was looking for a partner to help expand our evangelical software distribution program and e-academy, with its global reach and years of experience in the higher education software market, was the perfect fit. We look forward to working with e-academy to help us share our world class suite of virtualization software with students and faculty world-wide."
