We wanted to work with a system that was already trusted by other higher education owners, and one developed to meet the needs of facility owners vs. those of the contractor or architect.

e-Builder, the pioneer in fully integrated, cloud-based construction program management software announced today that Trinity University, in San Antonio, TX, has selected e-Builder Enterprise as its project management and collaboration platform to support delivery of ongoing construction and renovation projects. e-Builder will become the university’s primary project accounting system, and provide document management, communications, and collaboration capabilities to a broad range of stakeholders that includes architects, engineers and contractors.
Trinity University is currently undertaking phase 3 of its $127 million Center for the Sciences and Innovation, in addition to other residence hall and auditorium renovations. The University needed an owner-centric solution to provide a central communications and collaboration hub with integrated cost management and issues tracking and management capabilities. The Facilities team looked at nearby universities who were already using e-Builder for validation. John Greene, Director of Campus Planning and Sustainability, said “We listened to what was happening with other colleges and universities in the area. We wanted to work with a system that was already trusted by other higher education owners, and one developed to meet the needs of facility owners vs. those of the contractor or architect.” e-Builder will be used for big and small projects.
Prior to e-Builder the University did not have a formal project management system, and relied on spreadsheets to track project accounting. “On a previous project we had hired a project management consultant that had their own system. I didn’t particularly like that because we may not use the same project manager on an ongoing basis” said Greene. “We liked the idea of having the project information and putting it on the cloud to make sure everything was available not only during construction but post construction”.
Trinity University will also leverage e-Builder to digitize previous project plans, and leverage e-Builder as part of its crisis management initiative. “I know that if we ever have a major hurricane or tornado impact our campus, we’ll have our facilities’ plans available on the cloud so that consultants and other parties that may need access to that information can get to it in an efficient, secure manner” added Greene.
