In 2009, the IRS assessed 30-million penalties on individuals. We're you one of them?

Are you among the millions of Americans who files taxes late or owes money to the IRS? If so, you may be able to get some relief on the penalties and late fees that have accrued. easyIRS™, http://www.easyIRS.com, has just released a free web app called the IRS Penalty Detective™. This free tool allows taxpayers to determine why penalties were added to their account and helps start the process of seeking penalty relief. In some cases, it may be possible to get the penalties waived altogether.

Last year, the IRS assessed 30 million penalties on individuals. Jim Buttonow, VP of Product Development of easyIRS, says “the IRS can add penalties to your account for filing your return late, having errors on your return, failing to make the necessary payment, as well as other reasons.” His team designed the IRS Penalty Detective to educate taxpayers about the nature of penalties and fees on their accounts, and to identify opportunities for penalty relief. Mr. Buttonow worked for the IRS for 19 years. Statistics show that about 40% of penalties are abated. The chances increase for those who are knowledgeable and take action. The justifications for penalty reduction or removal are numerous. These reasons are called “reasonable cause” factors and they include items such as:

  •     Hardships such as illness, death in the family, theft,
  •     Acts of God (floods, fires, hurricanes, oil spills)
  •     Lost records
  •     Bad legal advice by a professional
  •     Errors made by the IRS

After using the application, if you believe you qualify for penalty relief, easyIRS will direct you to the proper IRS division and provide instructions on how to submit a written request to the IRS.

The IRS Penalty Detective is currently available online at http://www.easyIRS.com. It is one of many useful IRS software tools developed by New River Innovation, the parent company for easyIRS.
