What is amazing about the entire situation is an item this rare and valuable had a starting bid of .99 cents on eBay
Eastern Shore, DE (PRWEB) September 13, 2012
Estate Auctions Inc. is pleased to announce a rare opportunity to own a one of a kind original vase attributed to Dame Lucie Rie. A tall flaring cylindrical earthenware vase, ribbed decorations going around the vase between widening dividers. It has a flaring single foot, signed on the bottom with LR monogram and '38. It measures approx. 9 1/8" high and 4 5/8". This stunning piece is also featured by eBay in their "Fall Into Antiques" event which runs from September 6 - 16, 2012.
The vase was featured in a 2010 Catalog sale of a Major Auction house in Texas, where they dedicated two full pages of their catalog to it and put an estimated value of $25,000 to $35,000. Unfortunately the $25,000 low estimate was not reached. Because this piece has no long term provenance, the owner of the vase has spent the past couple years working on the attribution of this piece. He obtained a digital copy of Lucie Rie's diary through the Crafts Study Centre at the University for the Creative Arts in England. As he browsed the diary it was evident that his perseverance and research paid off. Scans of her diary from the (1930's), which shows several drawings of similar pieces, are featured with photos of the vase on eBay.
"We were contacted months ago about consigning this piece and as you could imagine I was thrilled and optimistic we would get this in our hands. When we were asked by eBay to participate in the "Fall Into Antiques" event the cosigner was thrilled about the idea and decided to send us the vase. What is amazing about the entire situation is an item this rare and valuable had a starting bid of .99 cents on eBay, where else does this happen?" says Norb Novocin, owner of Estate Auctions, Inc.
The auction closes Sunday, September 16th at approximately 10:00 PM EST. Interest in this rare piece of pottery continues to escalate as the auctions close draws near.
