With 1500 books converted to eBook format and more than 1000 titles distributed to retailers since it opened its doors in December 2010, eBookIt.com is beginning its second year of offering authors and publishers an “inexpensive, simple, and truly fool-proof way to get their book converted to ebook format, and submitted to the major online retailers fast, so they can start capitalizing on the exploding ebook market,” says eBookIt.com’s Founder and CEO, Bo Bennett.
eBookIt.com allows indie authors and small to medium-sized publishers to step right up to the booming ebook market. For $149, eBookIt.com will convert a Microsoft Word (or similar) document to various ebook formats, and submit the converted ebook to all the major retailers including Amazon.com (Kindle), Barnes & Noble (Nook), Apple’s iBookstore (iPad), Kobo, Sony ReaderStore, the Google ebookstore and Ingram Digital, which makes the book available to over 32,000 smaller online retailers to sell.
“eBookIt.com combines hands-on formatting and review to ensure an overall ebook conversion of the highest quality, providing peace of mind to our authors and publishers,” explains Bennett.
eBookit.com grew out of Bennett’s quest to convert his own print book to ebook. Initially placing his book with a service that offers free conversion, Bennett soon discovered that the advertised “quick and easy” route to ebook publishing didn’t exist. The do-it-yourself style guide was lengthy, and the formatting took him over twenty-five hours, and still was not satisfactory. Technically proficient though he is, Bennett had no greater success with a variety of different tools and services: the final ebook was never the level of quality he hoped for. “If a tech savvy author like me had this much trouble, what hope was there for the typical author who may or may not have a technical background?” he wondered. And so Bennett, who has started and run various successful technology-driven businesses since the 1990s, poured his focus into learning everything he could about ebooks, convinced that he could offer a better solution to other authors and publishers.
“Based on the tremendous positive customer feedback we’ve received over the past year, it’s clear we’re filling a real need,” says Bennett. “We’ve expanded our services to include book promotion services after hearing from so many authors who wanted help with telling the world about their book. There are so many different directions we could take, such as getting into traditional print publishing, as many of our customers have encouraged us. But we’ve decided the best way to serve our customers and grow our business is by keeping our focus on the evolving ebook technology, which is our area of expertise,” says Bennett.
