What all this adds up to is that we find better ways to manage a company's infrastructure, including managing the hardware, software, approach to projects, human capital, and the use of mobile devices.

Georgia-based IT support firm Guidance Consulting has been experiencing a recent shift in the services desired by their clientele to more eco-friendly technology solutions. In an effort to meet this demand in a way that adheres to their high-quality standards, the company is partnering with New York IT management firm Servnation.
The two IT companies have always had quite a bit in common, stemming from both of their approaches in serving non-industry-specific firms. “Almost all of today's successful businesses, no matter what their size or who they serve, have an IT framework they depend on to get their work done,” says Guidance Consulting senior consultant Ronald Gottilla. “It's our job to make that IT framework secure, efficient, and stable -- regardless of what the company's day-to-day objectives are.” By partnering together, these two companies can continue to reach a broad base of customers.
The transition to “greener” services through the partnership will deal primarily in issues of virtualization, unified threat management, increased dependence on routers, and power management.
“What all this adds up to is that we find better ways to manage a company's infrastructure, including managing the hardware, software, approach to projects, human capital, and the use of mobile devices,” says Servnation CEO Jay Cohen.
Despite this large lineup of options, both Gottilla and Cohen stress that “going green” should never be overwhelming or attempted overnight. “Don't try to change the whole world at once,” suggests Cohen. Gottilla goes one step further by advising clients to create a plan of action that looks to the future. Changes at the internal infrastructure level often require step-by-step processes that span months or even years.
The first step, both men stress, is finding an IT organization that can help develop that long-term plan safely and with a finger on the latest pulse of technology. And thanks to their new partnership, they plan to become that IT organization.
