Leading Roofing and Ventilation Supplier Uses Technology Platform to Make Green Building Easier

With ecoScorecard, builders, contractors and remodelers can now evaluate the environmental attributes of GAF products such as Timberline Prestique.

“GAF Materials Corporation wants to make it easier for our customers to evaluate the environmental attributes of our products,” explained Helene Hardy Pierce, Vice President of Technical Services with GAF.

GAF Materials Corporation, the largest roofing and ventilation manufacturer in North America is now using ecoScorecard to help builders, contractors and remodelers evaluate the environmental attributes of the company’s products against known rating systems. By clicking on a new ecoScorecard link on GAF’s website, builders, contractors and remodelers have to access to a wide range of environmental information about GAF’s products. ecoScorecard is the only technology platform that gives building product manufacturers the ability to provide sustainability documentation about their products for a number of third-party rating systems.

“GAF Materials Corporation wants to make it easier for our customers to evaluate the environmental attributes of our products,” explained Helene Hardy Pierce, Vice President of Technical Services with GAF. “As a web-based technology platform, ecoScorecard enables our customers to quickly and easily access environmental information about our products that they need to do their jobs.”

Introduced in 2007, ecoScorecard provides product specifiers with the ability to search and evaluate products based on environmental characteristics. The program does the calculations necessary for rating systems such as LEED, GGHC Labs 21, CHPS, and the NAHB Green Home Building Guidelines and includes and accounts for other third-party product certifications. The tool also produces the product documentation necessary for inclusion in the submission process.

“Building product manufacturers are realizing the competitive advantages to providing customers with their products’ environmental attributes and third-party rating system documentation,” explained Martin Flaherty, president of ecoScorecard. “And now GAF joins a rapidly expanding list of savvy product manufacturers that are turning to the ecoScorecard platform to help them effectively and efficiently provide this vital product information.”
