Each week, Edge Studio hosts a free script contest for voice over talent —giving students and pro voice over artists an ongoing outlet to practice their skills. Edge Studio focuses on a different genre or style of delivery for each contest—and everyone gets a prize. The best awards go to the top three finalists, but the most beneficial part is what comes after: an overall assessment of why some won and others didn’t.
The top three entrants get the biggest prizes—but nobody leaves empty-handed. The top three entrants receive prizes of real value—the top prize for this week, for example, is two free months of voiceover training through the Edge Studio Phase 4 training series, a $114 value. But even those who don’t win get a prize—this week, it’s a discount on a professional evaluation of an audition or recording.
“The prizes are great, but I think the biggest benefit is learning why some people don’t win,” says David Goldberg, Edge Studio founder. “The detailed professional evaluation helps entrants learn why they did not come out on top and what they can do to improve. This provides invaluable audition feedback for up-and-coming voiceover projects.” After each contest, Edge Studio provides a general assessment of the entrants—identifying common qualities that elevated some and held others back. For an in-person evaluation, every entrant receives a discount on professional feedback.
Students can enter the contest by going to the contest page on the website. Entrants can record their voice over performance of the weekly audition script at home, and upload their recording to the website.
“There are plenty of reasons for our alumni and students to come back to the website, and the contest is one of the most educational ones,” says David Goldberg. “Our aim is to provide students with a venue and an incentive to practice consistently, even after they’ve finished with our courses. But non-alumni are encouraged to enter as well.”
