This is advice that most professional voice over performers would have had to pay a lot for. By providing it for free, we’re hoping to develop a stronger pool of voice over performers for our own clients.

Once a month, Edge Studio offers something valuable to the Voice Over community for free. It’s called Talk With A Pro. It’s a one-hour conversation with an industry-recognized professional.

The conversations cover a range of topics, including the business of voice over as well as performance issues. Recent discussion topics have included protecting vocal cord health, taxes for voice actors, breaking into the audio book industry, project management, networking with peers to land more voice over jobs, and even voice over coaching with David Goldberg.

“This provides an invaluable opportunity for voice over artists to anonymously get practical answers to their questions from leaders in the industry,” says Edge Studio CEO David Goldberg. “It’s great for aspiring talent and seasoned pros!”

“One of our more recent discussions was with a tax expert experienced with the voice over industry,” Goldberg says. “Taxes for voice actors can be difficult and confusing—and professional help is expensive. If you’re new at doing your own taxes as a voice over performer, this conversation could be very useful at tax season.”

The conversation, with tax specialist June Walker, covers how to claim deductions in your voice over taxes; how to legally and safely reduce your tax bill as much as possible, and how to reduce stress during the busy tax season. You can hear it archived on the Edge Studio website here.

To participate in any Talk With A Pro conversation, you simply call in from any cell phone or landline—no registration necessary. You can ask your questions anonymously, and the industry expert will provide candid and detailed answers. As of the time of this writing, conversations are scheduled for the second Monday of every month, between 9 and 10 PM EST.

“This is advice that most professional voice over performers would have had to pay a lot for,” says Goldberg. “By providing it for free, we’re hoping to develop a stronger pool of voice over performers for our own clients.”
