Do miracles still happen? Author Editha Barcenas-Ziric answers this question with an inspirational story in a picture book for children titled The Magic Sprout. She entertains as much as she motivates kids to hold on to their dreams amidst the most difficult tribulations in life. This delightful story can hook youngsters with easy-to-follow lines and vividly illustrated pages.
Barcenas takes kids to a one-of-a kind journey to the breath-taking views of the Philippines with heavenly, azure skies, abundant exotic flora and fauna, and peace-loving people. Geographically located in Southeast Asia, this paradise-like country maintains a tropical rainforest climate. It is divided into three main island groups, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The latter, where the author was born and raised, is home to the country’s highest mountain, Mount Apo, and Asia’s “king of fruits,” the durian.
In this book, the author harks back to the earlier days of her life. Fruit-bearing trees, such as coconuts, mangoes, and durian, tended in the very yards of the locales make a mouth-watering feast. Beauteous lakes, spiraling rivers and sparkling seas make a stunning, satisfying view.
Growing up at the seaside, nine-year-old Gita was a little girl with big dreams. Surrounded by picturesque backdrops and well-taken care of by her family she was full of curiosity and high hopes for the future. She would run and play through orchards, have fun in the beach, and climb trees. One day, however, an accident puts her little body in excruciating agony as she passed out wondering if she could still see another day.
Readers can follow how Gita struggled to survive. In the end, what almost took her innocent life away became the miracle to recover and be up and back to fulfill her dreams. The Magic Sprout is a delightful tale that teaches hope and optimism to children.
