Edmonton, AB (Vocus) June 18, 2010
Edmonton Tourism, the marketing division of the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, launches its summer campaign this week, which aims to increase Greater Edmonton’s share of tourists from rubber-tire markets within Alberta as well as from B.C., Saskatchewan and the Northwest and Yukon Territories. The focus of this year’s campaign highlights Edmonton’s many attractions, shopping, arts and culture, in addition to the city’s renowned festivals, sporting events and entertainment happening all year long.
Ken Fiske, EEDC Vice President, Economic and Tourism Development says, “Each year, Edmonton attracts millions of visitors to the city and we have confidence that this campaign will give potential visitors plenty of compelling reasons to consider vacations in Edmonton this summer. “Many travellers are staying closer to home this year, providing an incredible opportunity to promote the city’s variety of exciting and affordable local attractions.”
A multi-media approach targets potential visitors using methods that include direct mail, e-marketing, promotional offers and an anchoring website. Consumers are encouraged to visit http://www.edmonton.com/liveallyear where they can peruse visitor information and vacation packages, find online coupons and enter to win one of two spectacular summer getaways and are eligible for an “instant-win” opportunity.
Tourism ambassadors are once again encouraged through the website to entice visitors to the region. Residents can invite family and friends to experience the many things to do in Edmonton and the Great Edmonton region through the “Visiting Friends and Relatives” program. Participants could win a $500 West Edmonton Mall shopping spree by sending out e-postcard invitations. By visiting the same site, residents who host their family and friends have an opportunity to win monthly prizes through the “Thank You Edmonton promotion” as a reward for being a tourism ambassador.
The summer campaign is a successful partnership between Edmonton’s Destination Marketing Hotels, the Edmonton and Area Tourism Destination Region, Edmonton Tourism, Travel Alberta and 15-plus tourism industry partners.
