Crafting at the Spotted Canary
Clifton, NJ (Vocus) October 7, 2010
Recycling. Education. Storytelling. They’re all topics you might expect to see covered on PBS – but they’re about to be presented in a whole new light.
"Crafting at the Spotted Canary," hosted by TV personality and crafting expert Joy Macdonell, debuts Thursday, Oct. 21. The 30-minute PBS series will explore the always creative, sometimes messy techniques adults and children can enjoy while experimenting with contemporary crafts.
Each show will highlight three projects, providing viewers with start-to-finish, easy-to-follow guidelines. Projects include:
- Recycling boxes, stickers and papers into a fairytale castle
- Learning the mechanics behind pop-up cards
- Journaling stories with stickers, rather than handwriting
- Personalizing file folders to jazz up a work space
- Creating custom wrapping paper with stamps
- Understanding basic jewelry techniques
“Crafting at the Spotted Canary” is produced by KS Inc. Productions in conjunction with EKSuccess Brands, a leading company in the craft industry. This new television series is an extension of the popular comprehensive crafting website, http://www.spottedcanary.com.
“We wanted to inspire a larger audience with our products and techniques,” says Rich Ezra, vice president of marketing for EKSuccess Brands. “This new program will showcase an array of fundamental theories and techniques with products that make modern crafting easy, fun and memorable.”
Macdonell, the education director at EKSuccess Brands, spearheads the company’s educational initiatives for retailers and consumers. She was the host of the Do It Yourself Network’s (DIY) “Greetings from DIY” workshop series and a a frequent guest on other shows.
“People often look at beautiful craftwork and wonder, ‘How in the world did they do that?’ That’s the question we’ll answer on ‘Crafting at the Spotted Canary,’” Macdonell says. “Viewers will quickly realize that everyone makes mistakes – and those mistakes can be wonderful. What we didn’t intend to do may be exactly what we need. It’s pure self-expression.”
