EMCO Software, a leading provider of software solutions for automated Windows network management, has announced the results of its research of different software deployment practices used by companies and organizations. According to the research results, more than 63% of large organizations use various approaches to automate software deployment in their networks, and 14% of organizations plan to automate their software deployment during 2013. 23% of the companies that participated in the research plan to migrate their software infrastructure to Windows 8 in the near future. 9% of the companies that have already completed migration to Windows 8 reported that they used software tools for automation of software deployment to end-user desktops, which allowed them to save 80% of the time required for migration to Windows 8 using traditional software deployment methods. Most of those companies used EMCO MSI Package Builder to repackage non-silent installations that required manual deployment into silent MSI packages that could be deployed remotely by various deployment tools.
Using EMCO MSI Package Builder, network administrators can convert non-silent setups available in the EXE format into silent MSI packages. Such packages are ready for silent deployment and can be used by network administrators to install software applications remotely through Microsoft Group Policy, EMCO Remote Installer and other deployment tools. EXE to MSI repackaging can be performed in a semi-automatic mode. Network administrators just need to run an original installation and follow the installation steps, and MSI Package Builder will capture the changes performed by the installation on the file system and in the registry. The captured changes are incorporated into an MSI package, which can be installed silently with the same result as a manual installation of the EXE setup.
"When migrating company desktops to Windows 8, network administrators need to take care of supporting the same infrastructure that was used under the previous versions of Windows. Fortunately, some software vendors create installation packages that are ready for remote deployment. Installations that aren't ready for silent deployment can be repackaged into silent MSI packages using EMCO MSI Package Builder. Network administrators can prepare software packages to be installed on user desktops and install them remotely on multiple PCs in parallel over the LAN using various software deployment tools. This can significantly reduce the time and effort required to migrate to the new version of Windows. EMCO MSI Package Builder is one of the key components in this process as it allows deploying remote software that isn't prepared for such deployment by software vendors", Thorarinn Oskarsson, CEO at EMCO Software, says.
