EMCO Software, a leading vendor of enterprise software solutions for Windows networks, has announced today the start of public beta testing of EMCO Remote Installer 4.1, which will last for two weeks till March 15, 2013. During this time, users of the previous versions of EMCO Remote Installer and new users can try the new features available in the new version of the application and share their feedback with the development team. The most active beta testers will get free licenses for version 4.1 from EMCO Software.

The beta version of EMCO Remote Installer includes several new features that are designed to simplify software deployment and management in large corporate networks. In particular, it allows network administrators to remotely install EXE setups that support the silent installation mode. This allows network administrators to distribute such installations remotely without repackaging them into other formats suitable for silent deployment.

"Today many software vendors understand the need of network administrators to distribute installations in the unattended mode, so they offer options to deploy installations silently. Using the new version of EMCO Remote Installer, network administrators can deploy EXE installations remotely without repackaging them into MSI packages or applying other changes, so installations can be deployed exactly as designed by software vendors with no third-party modifications", Thorarinn Oskarsson, CEO at EMCO Software, says.

EMCO Remote Installer 4.1 beta can automatically detect silent installation options for some types of EXE installation packages. For other types of installations, network administrators need to activate silent installation by specifying the respective command-line options defined by the installation vendor. If an installation requires an installation scenario, network administrators can specify it in EMCO Remote Installer, and the installation will be executed after the specified scenario on every remote PC.

Using the new version of EMCO Remote Installer, network administrators can not only install but also uninstall applications remotely. Applications installed as MSI packages by Windows Installer can be uninstalled quickly and easily: the network administrators only need to specify the applications to be uninstalled, and the uninstallation process can be executed automatically across a LAN. Applications installed as EXE setups can also be uninstalled remotely, but the network administrators need to specify the silent uninstallation options or provide uninstall scenarios for them.

The features introduced in 4.1 beta version of the application allow IT professionals to use EMCO Remote Installer for different types of remote software deployment tasks. The application supports remote installation of MSI packages and MSI patches and enables network administrators to run different pre- and post-installation operations on remote PCs. The installed Windows applications and Windows updates can be audited remotely and represented to networks administrators in form of inventory reports generated for selected PCs or the entire network.

"EMCO Remote Installer can be used as a replacement for GPO and other traditional types of remote deployment. The application combines software audit features with remote deployment options that simplify various remote deployment tasks. For example, it's really easy to find applications not approved by the company and uninstall them across a LAN using EMCO Remote Installer, but it's hard to do so using the standard Windows domain deployment features. Using EMCO Remote Installer can save IT professionals a lot of time and effort," Thorarinn Oskarsson, CEO at EMCO Software, says.
