The SunTrust Foundation Center for Financial Education at Wake Technical Community College conducted two personal finance events for their employees as part of their community-wide financial literacy initiative.

The ‘Financial Empowerment Workshop: Retirement Planning & Investing’ provided Wake employees training to help them achieve financial wellness. The presentation was delivered by Kim Knox of the National Financial Educators Council and the topics included: investment preparation, risk management, inflation and other retirement planning topics to help them prepare for long-term financial wellbeing.

According to the 2010 survey conducted by the American Psychological Association’s entitled ‘Stress in America’, over 75% of people report money as being a significant cause of stress. Wake Tech is proactively addressing this by providing accessible financial education programming to their students, staff and community.

The focus of the Center for Financial Education and their programming is to deliver real-world lessons that employ multiple touch points, collaboration, and modern marketing techniques to maximize campaign benefits.    

Wake Technical Community College is fully committed to designing a comprehensive financial education initiative for prospective students, current students, staff, and faculty. The planning, implementation and assessment of the financial literacy program is a collaborative effort between Wake Tech’s administration, Foundation Office, GED/ABE Programs, Student Activities Office, Financial Aid Office, Promotions & Marketing and Curriculum Education Services. The college is dedicated to providing this holistic financial education initiative in order to increase financial literacy and allow participants to achieve financial freedom and empowerment.

Established in 2008, the SunTrust Foundation’s mission is to provide monetary support to nonprofit organizations and institutions engaged in activities promoting education, health and human services, culture and art, and civic and community involvement that contribute to the social and economic development of the communities SunTrust serves.
