Newburyport, MA (PRWEB) May 16, 2013
In an online auction that started on April 25th and ends on May 29th, the City of Newburyport, MA is selling the Endeavour, a 37 Foot Sailboat for additional non-tax revenue. By using an established, but innovative, online government auctions site specifically designed for municipalities, Newburyport, MA is conducting a month-long auction of this unusual surplus item. It is looking to garnish thousand of dollars to be put back into its budget.
While Newburyport owns the Endeavor now, it’s previous owner was lost over the side of the boat last year and presumed dead. That hasn’t prevented potential buyers from bidding on the sailboat. Two weeks before the auction is due to end, the item already has over 30 bids with the current high bid over $10,000. Surplus auctions on Municibid gear up in the final days of the sale, so it’s expected that the final purchase price should be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Newburyport Harbormaster, Paul Hogg said, “The City took possession of this sailboat last year. At that time, it was in good running condition with no apparent issues. It was taken out of the water in November and driven under its own power to the docks. We winterized it and stored it on City property. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a used vessel.”
The City of Newburyport is using online auction site, Municibid.com to sell the boat. Municibid was established in 2006 and has grown steadily since, with over 800 government agencies auctioning surplus through the efficient online system. Newburyport is auctioning surplus item online because the website has an established nationwide reach growing every day. Auctions on Municibid result in competitive bidding and fair prices for government surplus items.
Municibid Founder and CEO, Greg Berry said, “Taxpayer demand and tightened budgets require government agencies to look for new ways of increasing non-tax revenue. Municibid is an easy way to achieve this and at no cost to the agency.” Berry added, “Auction items will reach a much broader, national audience of competing bidders, leading to better net results.”
