Lumension Releases New Endpoint Security eBook

Aberdeen’s research confirms that the status quo is no longer fully effective for endpoint security.

The threat landscape surrounding organizations today has drastically changed, making it almost unrecognizable compared to the landscape from a few years ago. Just as we adapt and protect ourselves against the latest threats, the bad guys finalize their plans to get around our defenses. Lumension®, a global leader in endpoint management and security, today announced the general availability of the eBook “It’s Your Move: The Evolution in Endpoint Security.”

Similar to a chess game, we can achieve the strongest security by anticipating the opponents’ next move. It’s an art to identify minor vulnerabilities and adjust the unknown in order to quietly attack. Hackers have the ability to create far too many malware signatures that antivirus (AV) vendors simply cannot keep up with. According to McAfee, the number of threats security researchers found needing new AV signatures rose from around 250,000 per month to over 2 million per month.

“Aberdeen’s research confirms that the status quo is no longer fully effective for endpoint security. Baseline technologies such as anti-virus and vulnerability management are absolutely necessary, but by themselves they do not differentiate top performance. Application control, when used as part of a multi-layered approach to endpoint security, shows great promise in the enterprise battle against sophisticated malware and unwanted applications,” said Derek Brink, vice president and research fellow for IT Security, Aberdeen Group.

It is easy enough to understand that problems security professionals are facing today are different than those they had yesterday. However, it is difficult to stay a step ahead knowing that tomorrow’s issues will also be different than those we’re worrying about at the moment. In order to understand how the landscape of attacks has changed, we need to adapt more rapidly than today’s hackers. The eBook educates readers on why cohesive policy for management and security of endpoints will be your best defense.

“Our old security moves are outdated, antivirus software can no longer stand on its own as a defense mechanism,” said Paul Zimski, Vice President of Solutions Marketing at Lumension. “We’re losing the security game to the bad guys and will continue to do so unless we reshape our current security practices.”

Through the eBook, Lumension reveals how organizations are caught in a losing battle against IT security and strategic changes are needed in order to protect valuable endpoints. Similarly, it also identifies how major trends changing the nature of endpoint security will alter how organizations approach the next move towards security without breaking the bank.
