Whether you are lucky enough to have a good new car, or are still driving an old banger, it's a good idea to make sure your car is in tip top shape (and has sufficient cover from your car insurance policy), not just for the drive to campus, but for the duration of your stay before you head back to the security of your parents' home again.
Taking care of your vehicle is also one of the first steps to becoming a responsible adult, and it's not nearly as difficult as some may imagine. According to Endsleigh, the easiest way to make sure that your car will go the distance with you is to carry out a few simple checks regularly.
Fluids: Keep a close eye on oil, coolants, water, brake fluids and so on. This way your car will never be in danger of running dry and breaking down. It's always better to check the various levels and top up when needed, than to break down unexpectedly.
Tyres: Your car's tyres are what keep it on the road - make sure the pressure is correct and they are not too worn down. Even a slightly flat tyre and a tyre with shallow tread could cause an accident, or an unpleasant time spent changing a tyre on the side of the road.
Insurance: Most importantly, make sure your insurance is paid up. Students are usually looking for cheap car insurance, which can be easier to find than you may think. Just search for some good car insurance quotes online before you pick a provider. Of course, when you get to your University, be sure to get your possessions safe by taking out good student insurance cover.
