Enerdyne Technologies Inc. has introduced a man-portable digital data link for collecting and transmitting real time video, GPS data, and voice communications from a maritime boarding party to analysts on a mother ship for Maritime Interdiction Operations. The full duplex data link repackages the proven EnerLinksII small tactical UAV data link system into a portable, battery powered system that includes a modem, transmitter, receiver, and antenna. Enerdyne, a ViaSat company and supplier of advanced Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance data links, demonstrated the new system during last week's ThinkTEC 2008 Homeland Security Innovation Conference at SPAWAR in Charleston, SC.

Maritime interdiction operations are a key element of the Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) program, a critical component of the National Security Strategy. The MDA objective is to effectively understand everything associated with the global maritime domain that could impact the security, safety, economy, or the environment of the United States.

The Enerdyne EnerLinksII Maritime Interdiction Data Link (MIDL) provides real time wireless communications between a boarding party and personnel aboard a mother ship or other platforms supporting an interdiction operation. The EnerLinksII MIDL product delivers full motion video, audio, GPS, and a 5 Mbps line-of-sight data link, along with ports for integration with a variety of other sensors including systems for collecting biometric data or CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, neurological, and explosive weapons) information. The system includes the Enerdyne EnerView(TM) content display and management application where time synched video, audio, GPS, chat and all other data is archived for DVR-like display, search, and dissemination.

"This portable data link gives you a set of 'independent eyes' that can really increase the safety and effectiveness of boarding parties," said Steve Gardner, VP and general manager of Enerdyne. "You can also extend that view throughout the mother vessel, with multiple instances of EnerView on other computers connected by a wired or wireless LAN, all with the ability to use the EnerView system DVR modes independently of each other."
